Student Admissions, Outcomes, and Other Data

The Clinical Child Psychology Program at the University of Kansas is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association* and provides education and training information to potential students, current students and the public about program processes and outcomes, including time to completion, program costs, internships, attrition, and licensure.

Furthermore, as a member program of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP), the CCPP has a history of providing such comparative information. The member programs of CUDCP support the provision of fuller disclosure about operations and outcomes of our educational endeavors.  See the CUDUCP Manual for DCTs (pdf) more information.

Consequently, the KU CCPP provides the following performance and outcome data pertaining to the education of its graduate students. We are using the matrix format suggested by APA Commission on Accreditation and CUDCP so that prospective students can have consistent and interpretable information across programs.

We recognize, and hope that prospective applicants appreciate as well, that these numbers may mean very little. Such numbers do not tell all about our students. Our Program is definitely not one that screens applicants only on GRE scores, for example, in order to report high scores as indicating something about our students' qualities. We have found many excellent students who have experiences and abilities not reflected in particularly high scores. Students present various credentials and we review all applications for admission. In its applications review, the CCPP Admissions Committee considers: (a) research experiences (b) clinical and "people" experiences (c) quality of undergraduate/graduate training and specificity of letters of recommendation (d) GRE/GPA (e) fit of applicant's interests to program features.

What is important for an applicant is that this Program truly engages in "truth in advertising" about what it does. We provide much information about the KU Clinical Child Psychology Program as a specialty so that the student finds a "happy home" with us or with another training program in the country, whichever best fits his or her interests.

Program Disclosures

Does the program or institution require students, trainees, and/or staff (faculty) to comply with specific policies or practices related to the institution’s affiliation or purpose? Such policies or practices may include, but are not limited to, admissions, hiring, retention policies, and/or requirements for completion that express mission and values?

YES
NOX

Time to Completion for all students entering the program

Graduate courses from another university may be used to waive certain courses in the CCPP. These courses, however, are not officially "transferred" (i.e., the hours for waived courses do not count toward the hourse necessary for graduation). Rather, the student may take elective courses (including practicum and research hours) to fulfill the required number of hours for the doctoral degree. Please see the CCPP Training Manual for more information.

Licensure

The Clinical Child Psychology Program at the University of Kansas meets the educational requirements for doctoral training in the state of Kansas as outlined by K.A.R. 102-1-12. Licensure in the state of Kansas also requires one year of post-doctoral supervision/training (K.A.R. 102-1-5a), which must be obtained after completion of the Program. If you plan to obtain a license or certification in a state other than Kansas or a U.S. territory after completion of your program, it is highly recommended you first seek guidance from the appropriate licensing agency BEFORE beginning the academic program to ensure you can obtain a license or certification in your home state or territory. The NC-SARA Professional Licensure Directory provides resources for licensure and certification boards outside of Kansas.
